How to find a job in Dubai – 6 Tips & Tricks – Salman Gul
Here are the dos and don’ts of how to find a job in Dubai! Let’s get down to it
- Dropping Hard Copies? No!
Do not drop a hard copy of your CV because honestly it’s a waste of your money and your time which if I am not wrong, you don’t have a lot to spare if you are on a Job Hunt in Dubai. The handing over of the printed CV definitely worked in the past because there was NO INTERNET! Now, a receptionist will just take your resume and will say thank you if he\she is nice. That CV goes no where. Other’s will directly tell you that they don’t accept walk-in CVs or to apply on the company’s website for any available job openings. - Get on the Internet:
Fresh Graduates:
If you are a fresh graduate and have no experience. The best chance you have of finding a crisp job is with multi-nationals and almost all of them have an office in Dubai (do not settle for locals, they will ruin your career and lifestyle both). As a fresh candidate you will not ask for much salary and if you have a good academic background and presentation skills, it should be easy for you. Search multi-national jobs for fresh candidates in Dubai and you will see a lot of results.
Experienced Candidates:
I cannot stress this enough, make a LinkedIn profile with each and every section of it filled with relevant information of your experience to the bone. The jobs section on LinkedIn is the best place for experienced candidates to find a job of their relevant industry instantly.
Learn how to use powerful features of LinkedIn job search. You can choose your experience level and also the time range of the jobs posted. Once you have your ideal search setup, turn on that job alert bell icon so that you can automatically receive notifications of in your inbox based on your search preferences. - Fake recruitment agencies:
If someone asks you for money in return for a job opportunity, you are being scammed. Although Dubai is cracking down on these fake recruitment agencies, like bed bugs you can still find them here and there.
Here’s how you can identify if you have encountered a fake job offer.- You did not send them an application.
- They called you for an interview at a very suspicious location.
- Incorrect grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
- The email address seems suspicious.
- Does not have their own website.
- The offer sounds too good to be true.
- And finally there is a “fee to get a paid job”.
- Premium Services:
If you really have the money to spare, buy a premium package of LinkedIn job search or Bayt or any other reputed job search portal. Their premium packages will put you in front of the recruiting company by skipping the que of other CVs. - Do the interview research:
When you land an interview, make sure that you do your research into what the company exactly does, how many departments it has, its culture, its mission and future goals. You will probably find all of it on their websites. An employer always feels happy to know that his\her company is known by people in the market. This will add bonus points to your interview. - What to wear:
I have noticed that even on your best day, a recruiter might say that you are not dressed for an interview. Wear a cologne. Keep one in your bag pack and just before entering the interview room, spray a little on yourself. 1st impression is the last impression and in a competitive job market of Dubai you want to make sure that are good to go. Following attire is probably a good choice for men and women.
