Privacy Policy
How salmangul.com collects, uses, stores and protects information, what third parties are involved, and the choices and rights you have.
1. Who is responsible for your data
This website, salmangul.com, is operated by Salman Gul, an independent performance and growth marketing consultant. For the purposes of data protection law, I am the data controller for information collected through this site.
If you have any question about this policy or want to exercise your rights, contact me at salmangul@hotmail.com or through the contact page.
2. Information you give me directly
You can browse almost all of this site without providing any personal information. You choose to provide it in the following situations.
- Contact form. When you send an enquiry, I receive the name, email address and message you submit, along with the date and time of submission. This is used to reply to you and to discuss potential work.
- Email subscription. If you subscribe to receive new posts, I store the email address you provide so that updates can be sent. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, the name, email address and comment text you submit are stored, together with your IP address and browser user agent, which is standard WordPress behaviour used to detect spam. Comments may also be made through an embedded Facebook comments feature, in which case Meta processes that interaction under its own privacy policy.
- Direct correspondence. If you email, message or call me, that correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and any resulting engagement.
I do not sell personal information, and I do not share enquiry details with third parties except the service providers described in section 6.
3. Information collected automatically
Like most websites, this site records certain technical information automatically when you visit.
- Server and security logs. IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, pages requested, and the date and time of each request. This is used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults. Failed login attempts are also logged for security purposes.
- Analytics. Pages viewed, time on page, approximate location, device category, traffic source and similar behavioural measures, used to understand which content is useful and how the site performs.
- Advertising and measurement tags. Tags loaded through Google Tag Manager may set cookies or identifiers used for conversion measurement and retargeting across advertising platforms.
4. The media plan calculator
This site hosts a free UAE real estate lead generation media plan calculator. Because it is a tool rather than a page, it records slightly more than ordinary analytics, and I want to be explicit about exactly what that is.
- What is recorded. When the calculator is opened, and when a media plan is generated, the tool records the planning inputs and outputs: emirate, market type, objective, funnel strategy, business type, budget type, budget amount, campaign duration, platforms selected, property types, and the resulting forecast figures such as leads, qualified leads, sales, revenue, ROAS and cost per lead.
- Identifiers. A randomly generated visitor identifier is stored in your browser’s local storage and a session identifier in session storage, so that repeat use can be counted without identifying you. These are not linked to your name or email.
- IP handling. Your IP address is never stored in readable form. It is converted into an irreversible salted hash, and separately used once to resolve an approximate country, region and city, which are stored instead. The IP itself is discarded.
- Why. This tells me how often the tool is used, which markets and objectives visitors are planning for, and whether the tool is working. It is aggregate product and audience insight, not individual profiling.
- Not personal input. The calculator does not ask for and does not store your name, email address, phone number, company name or any client data. Project names typed into the form are not transmitted or saved.
5. Cookies, local storage and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site and its third-party services use them in the following broad categories.
- Strictly necessary. Session, security, login and caching cookies required for the site to function.
- Preferences. Storage that remembers choices, including the identifiers used by the calculator and by push notification prompts.
- Analytics. Cookies that measure how the site is used, including Google Analytics.
- Advertising. Cookies and pixels used for conversion measurement and retargeting on advertising platforms.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working. Clearing your browser storage will also remove the calculator identifiers described above.
6. Third-party services
The following services may receive or process data when you use this site. Each operates under its own privacy policy.
- Google (Analytics, Tag Manager, Search Console, Fonts and advertising products), for measurement, tag delivery, typography and advertising.
- Meta, where the embedded Facebook comments feature or advertising measurement tags are used.
- AdRoll, for advertising retargeting.
- OneSignal, for browser push notifications, if you opt in to receive them.
- Hostinger, which hosts this website and processes server logs on my behalf.
- ip-api.com and ipapi.co, which resolve an IP address to an approximate location for the calculator, as described in section 4.
- Email and form delivery providers, used to deliver contact form submissions and subscription emails.
Some of these providers are located outside your country, including in the United States. Where that involves transferring personal data internationally, the transfer relies on the provider’s own safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses.
7. Why I process your data, and the legal basis
- To respond to enquiries and deliver services. Basis: performance of a contract, or steps taken at your request before entering one.
- To operate, secure and improve the site. Basis: legitimate interests in running a safe, functional and useful website.
- To measure marketing and understand the audience. Basis: consent where required by your local law, otherwise legitimate interests.
- To send updates you asked for. Basis: your consent, withdrawable at any time.
- To meet legal obligations. Basis: compliance with applicable law.
8. How long data is kept
- Enquiries and correspondence: for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and any resulting engagement, then for a reasonable period for record keeping.
- Subscription email addresses: until you unsubscribe.
- Comments: until you ask for removal.
- Analytics and calculator usage records: retained in aggregate for trend analysis, and reviewed periodically so that older detail is removed when it is no longer useful.
- Server and security logs: short term, in line with hosting practice.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights: to access the personal data held about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data deleted, to restrict or object to processing, to withdraw consent, to receive your data in a portable format, and to complain to a supervisory authority.
- United Arab Emirates. Rights under Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data.
- Saudi Arabia. Rights under the Personal Data Protection Law.
- European Economic Area and United Kingdom. Rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
- California and other US states. Rights to know, delete, correct and opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. I do not sell personal information.
To exercise any right, email salmangul@hotmail.com. I will respond within the period required by the applicable law, and may need to verify your identity first.
10. Your choices
- Email updates. Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or email me and I will remove you.
- Push notifications. Revoke notification permission for this site in your browser settings at any time.
- Analytics. Use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or block analytics cookies in your browser.
- Advertising. Adjust ad personalisation in your Google and Meta account settings, or use your browser’s tracking protection.
- Calculator identifiers. Clear your browser’s local and session storage for this site.
11. Security
This site is served over HTTPS, administrative access is restricted and protected against repeated login attempts, and IP addresses collected through the calculator are hashed rather than stored in readable form. No website can promise absolute security, but I take reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the data involved.
12. Children
This site is aimed at businesses and marketing professionals. It is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact me and I will delete it.
13. External links
This site links to third-party websites, including advertising platforms, industry sources and social profiles. I am not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, and I encourage you to read their policies.
14. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the site, its tools or the applicable law change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be made clear on this page.
15. Contact
Questions, requests or complaints about privacy can be sent to salmangul@hotmail.com, or through the contact page.
