The market

The GCC is one of gaming’s most important emerging frontiers.

A young, mobile-first, high-spending population meets state-scale investment and world-record esports events. The result is a market growing far faster than the global average, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE turning gaming into a pillar of economic diversification. Here is what that market looks like in 2026, and where it is heading.

Three numbers frame the opportunity. The Middle East gaming market is worth about USD 5.14 billion in 2026 and is forecast to nearly double to USD 9.32 billion by 2031. Saudi Arabia leads with roughly a third of the regional market and 23.5 million gamers, powered by a young population and Vision 2030. And behind it all sits Savvy Games Group’s USD 38 billion commitment, one of the largest gaming investment programmes anywhere, turning the Gulf from a consumer market into a producer and host of the industry.

The structural forces

What is shaping the next five years

Five forces will define GCC gaming through 2031. First, mobile and cloud: the market is mobile-first, and 5G plus regional GPU deployments make cloud and streaming the fastest-growing segment at nearly 17% a year. Second, esports mainstreaming: with 73% of MENA-3 gamers engaged in esports and the Gulf hosting the world’s biggest events, competitive gaming is now a marketing channel in its own right. Third, state investment and local studios: Savvy, NEOM and free zones are shifting the region from consuming Western IP to producing and publishing its own. Fourth, monetization maturing: in-app purchases, ad monetization and local payments are professionalising fast, raising ARPU. Fifth, regulation and localisation: age-rating frameworks, Arabic-first culturalisation and evolving licensing rules increasingly separate the brands that win here from those that treat the Gulf as an afterthought.

Questions

GCC gaming market FAQs

How big is the GCC and Middle East gaming market in 2026?

The Middle East gaming market is worth roughly USD 5.14 billion in 2026 and is forecast to reach around USD 9.32 billion by 2031, a compound growth rate near 12.6% according to Mordor Intelligence, well above the global average. Cloud and streaming is the fastest-growing segment at about 17% a year. Saudi Arabia is the largest market by revenue with around a third of the regional total, followed by the UAE and Egypt.

Why does Saudi Arabia lead GCC gaming?

Saudi Arabia combines scale and state backing. It has around 23.5 million gamers, about 67% of the population, and its PIF-backed Savvy Games Group has committed USD 38 billion to gaming, owning Scopely and ESL FACEIT Group and building domestic studios. The Kingdom hosts the Esports World Cup, runs a National Gaming and Esports Strategy under Vision 2030, and is developing a gaming cluster at NEOM, making it the clear regional centre for both consumption and production.

Is GCC gaming mobile-first or console?

Overwhelmingly mobile-first. The large majority of players game on smartphones, with hyper-casual and midcore titles leading, though console and PC have passionate, high-spend audiences, and Saudi Arabia shows strong PC and console demand. 5G and regional cloud deployments are pushing console-quality streaming onto phones, which is why cloud and streaming is the fastest-growing segment. Any GCC go-to-market plan should lead with mobile while not ignoring the premium PC and console niches.

How important is esports in the Gulf?

Very. Around 73% of MENA-3 gamers engage with esports in some form, and the Gulf hosts the world’s biggest events, the Esports World Cup drew 750 million viewers and a USD 70 million prize pool. With the GCC and Arab Esports Federations, Saudi’s Team Falcons competing at the top globally, and cities building esports venues, competitive gaming has become a mainstream marketing and sponsorship channel, not a niche.

How do you market a game to GCC players?

Lead with mobile user acquisition across Meta, TikTok, Google and the gaming ad networks, optimise ASO in both Arabic and English, and build monetization and retention around local payment behaviour and community. Creators and streamers drive discovery, Discord and social sustain community, and native Arabic culturalisation, not just translation, separates brands that resonate from those that don’t. Each of these disciplines is covered in depth in the playbooks in this hub.

How important is Arabic localisation for games in the GCC?

It is decisive. The audience is bilingual but responds far more strongly to native Arabic experiences, and full culturalisation, adapting content, art, tone and cultural references rather than only translating strings, drives materially higher engagement and retention. Games and esports brands that treat Arabic as an afterthought consistently underperform those that build it in from the start, which is why localisation is a core topic in this hub rather than a footnote.
